Course content
We don’t often spend time thinking about who we are and what is important to us. It is something that is so important when we want to create an extraordinary and fulfilling life. Also, it is worth knowing that the most stressful times in our lives are usually when we are doing something or going through something that tests us or is not in line with our values.
In a business context, if our personal values are not aligned with that of the organisation that we work for, this will affect our levels of satisfaction and engagement at work and over time may cause stress and erode performance.
Our values are like an internal navigation system. Guiding and leading us through tough times when we need to be resilient. Core values underpin how we live our lives and the decisions we make at work. They assist us in answering “Who am I and what do I stand for.” They are unspoken rules and regulations, terms and conditions that we have agreed to (within ourselves) and ultimately live by. Some were handed down to us, others we learned along the way. Some may have changed over time, others will have grown stronger. Knowing our core, personal values helps us make the best decisions for us and enables to make life and career choices in alignment with what matters most to us. When we are in alignment with your personal values, work feels invigorating and flows easily and we feel “alive” and “engaged”. It is the precious feeling of “being where we belong” or “doing what we were meant to do” that drives high performance and creates happier, more productive teams.
